Meet The Secretariat
Hi there fellow munners, I’m Athena Michael, a third year Political Science and History double major student, who is also pursuing a minor in religious studies. I am the Secretary-General for this year’s SMUN.
My deep interest for MUNs was first stirred when I participated as a delegate of South-Africa of the World Health Organization (WHO), when I was in JC2. Soon after that MUNs became an addiction. This saw me participating in the pretigious Harvard World Model United Nations 2011 as an Assistant Chair of UNAIDS and in SMUN 2011 as an assistant chair for the special committee of NATO. I also served as the Under-Secretary General for Academics in SMUN 2012. Little did I expect myself to be signing up for another MUN soon after; SMUN 2012.
I have always been passionate about issues concerning international politics; which would explain my love affair with MUNs. I am an avid reader and largely concentrate on books about religion and politics. No surprise, I would guess. Amidst all of that I love watching CSI, Glee, New Girl and several other TV series. Also i wear the titles of ‘mugger’ and ‘nerd’ as badges of pride.
I look forward to seeing all of you at SMUN 2013. Till then take care and have fun!
Cherylyn is currently living her dream of being a communications coach specializing in debate. Her vision for debate involves making it more accessible to anyone and everyone who’s interested in knowing more about debate, especially those with little or no resources.
She does this through a number of pay-by-passion assignments such as serving as Director (Competitions) at Debate Association (Singapore) and writing articles on a weblog (www.helloquip.blogspot.com). Her passion for debate extends beyond our humble homeland borders, having once conquered 26 hours worth of flights and delays, weird people, and snow in Istanbul, to judge in the World Schools Debating Championships in Antalya, Turkey. Yes kids, if you love something and work hard enough, you most definitely can do what you love and love what you do. See you at SMUN 2013!
I am Kenneth Chong, a third-year undergraduate reading Political Science at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Why am I in MUN? The answer is simple – interest. Some of you may be MUN veterans, or you could just like me – a relative newcomer. But underneath it all, we share the same interest, which has brought you here. If you are reading this, you are probably interested in the same things as I am – a desire to understand what really goes behind the scenes. What makes the world tick.
When I am not off being part of MUN, I spend much of my time mugging, reading and shooting the breeze with my friends. Oh, and I spend quite a bit of my time and money hunting for collectibles, miniatures and static models. It’s a nerd kind of thing.
Under-Secretary-General (Conference Management)
Hi Delegates! I’m Sanam Kaurani, a first year Political Science major. This is my very first MUN experience and hence I am looking forward to an intellectually intriguing, enjoyable and memorable one. Besides burying myself in books, I enjoy swimming, cycling and watching legal documentaries. I am particularly inclined towards the Performing Arts and that explains my passion for dance and drama. My stint with the Political Science Society has benefitted me a great deal as my interest in international relations has been stirred which has in turn made me appreciate the world of politics even more.
Chua Shi Min
Under-Secretary-General (Delegates Liaison)
Hi all, I am Shi Min, Year two student majoring in Psychology in National University of Singapore. I’m serving as the Under Secretary-General for Delegates Liaison in SMUN 2013. This is my first encounter with Model United Nations, and I look forward to a memorable and interesting experience!
Han Ke Xin
Hi, I’m Ke Xin, a Year 2 Political Science major who is extremely inclined towards international relations and political thought, and I’m serving as Under-Secretary General for Finance in SMUN 2013. I enjoy reading, learning languages and organizing events. This is my first time participating in Model United Nations and I hope it’ll be an awesome experience for all of us.
Hi! I’m Aiman, a third-year Political Science major in NUS. I am the Events Director for SMUN2013. Even though this is my first MUN, I think it will be a great experience, organizing such activities and even get to meet and make new friends. I am passionate about issues concerning children’s rights, which is why I choose to involve myself with SMUN2013. Apart from being an absolute nerd, completing my readings and assignments, I try to find time to indulge myself in my TV shows such as Community, Parks and Rec, Grey’s Anatomy, and the list just goes on. Also, I am a huge Disney kid. Bring on the Lion King, Finding Nemo, Mulan and all the rest of the animated movies.
Hello everyone, I’m Cheryl Ko, a first-year undergraduate in NUS, majoring in Political Science, and in hopes of pursuing a minor in Religious Studies.Ever since beginning my MUN journey in 2010, I have been to two SMUNs, representing Indonesia and Brunei in Human Rights Council (HRC) and Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) respectively. I was also the delegate of Ireland in ECOSOC in WE Model United Nations Conference (WEMUNC), a MUN held in Beijing, China. In 2012, I went back to China to be an Assistant Chair in WEMUNC in the Historical Security Council.
Outside MUNs, I am a commitment freak, and during this summer break, other than taking on roles in SMUN, I am doing Finance for Singapore Model Parliament, doing publicity and sponsorship for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences’ Orientation Week, and am co-heading the annual NUS Rag for Eusoff Hall. Despite that, I am still excited to be able to provide (hopefully) an enriching experience for all the delegates for SMUN 2013!
Under Secretary-General (Publications)
Hi everyone, if you’ve had more than enough of SMUN on Facebook, that would have to be my doing. I’m Felicia, a Year 2 Political Science major with an interest in international relations and I’m serving as Under-Secretary General for Publications and Publicity in SMUN 2013. This is also my first time participating in Model United Nations so here’s to an exciting and fun-filled session ahead for all of us! Till then, see you on Facebook
Ohaiyo! I’m a Year Three History Major with a Minor in Political Science. I take special interest in East Asian History. SMUN 2013 is my third MUN (since I enjoyed my first and second quite a bit). I am also involved with the NUS History Society. I hope I could sing. I hope I could dance. I hope I could code better so I won’t be awake at 5am still coding the website.
